I’ve lost count of the number of folk who expressed sadness for missing the chance to join in with the handwritten letter exchange.
With 738 participants it’s already a sizeable group of letter-writing folk. However, as more people began to hear about it on Instagram and Twitter (#writealetterbyhand) I wondered whether it might be possible to keep it going and realised that I could change the date for exchanging snail mail…
…so I did.
There is no longer a deadline as such and if you’d like to join in you can, any time you like. It shall be a rolling letter writing project. So here’s the plan:
As long as people would still like to sign up and continue to do so then every week or two I’ll activate a ‘draw’ amongst those people so that they’ll all receive the name of a letter writing partner. They can write to that person and all being well they will also receive a letter from someone else. Each joiner inner should have two potential penpals (although if something goes awry 1 is pretty ace).
So, if you’d like a penpal or two then click below and sign up, oh and spread the word via email or social media (I’m aware of the slight irony here) if you know someone who might like to join in…and let me know below if you’ve received a letter and are enjoying the experience….
Hi Emma!
Could I please join in with the handwritten letter exchange? I have a penpal already who I’ve written to for years but would love to find another one! I was gutted I missed out on your lovely project and am so pleased you’ve opened up the opportunity again! Please add me to the list! Thank you. 🙂
I’d love to join in on this letter writing exchange!
Hi Emma,
I seem to have messed up my login since I can’t for the life of me log in to get the info of the person I’m supposed to write to. Is there any way you could check and let me know their details via email?
HELP! I wrote to the person I had been paired with but I have never had a reply. Also I cannot seem to get anywhere on the website to sign up again. Please could I be paired up with another person. Thank you.
Hi Emma,
Thanks so much for organising this. I received a lovely letter all the way from the USA (I live in East Anglia).
I was a bit slow writing back but hopefully my reply has made it back across the pond by now.
It’s been lovely to have the excuse to just sit and write again, thank you! Long may it continue.

Hello. And Bye.
I would love to exchange handwritten letters with people. I miss getting letters that are not bills or junk-mail.

I have followed you on Instagram for quite some time. Your postings are like a breath of fresh air. As an artist and a teacher I love all the things that you do and hope to one day attend one of your fabulous workshops across the pond.
I would love to join if it’s still possible? I love writing and receiving handwritten letters.

Please provide information.
Thank you
I would love to join in with this – it looks like it is closed but if anyone who has commented recently would like to become my snail mail pen pal, reply to this and maybe we can exchange details? Thank you
I was wondering if this was still ongoing….I’d love to write to someone:)
I would also like to join in with this if it is still ongoing. I would love to write letters to someone and make a new friend.

I have stumbled across your blog today. It has been such an inspiration to read. I would love to join the hand written letter writers! I divide my time between the uk and rural France!

Hi, I would love to join the letter exchange too, in fact only a few weeks ago I put a plea out on a Facebook group to revive the art of letter writing. I’ve tried to join this one but it says it’s closed. Could you add me to the penpals list please? Thanks. Emma
Would also love to join! Saw it in Project Calm. It says it’s closed though. 🙁
Hi, I am another who has arrived from reading the Project Calm article to find the sign up is closed. Is there a date when next sign ups will be taken ??

Hi, so sorry, it was included in error. The project became so big that I was unable to continue administrating it. There were around 1000 participants and the responses were too much for me to keep up with. I know this must be disappointing
I’d like to join, my hobby is penmanship :^)
Hi, I just added a comment to join the penpal letter writing and realised it isn’t working now. I just clicked reply on your message as you were the one above me. If you would like a penpal I would enjoy writing.
Thank you Lorraine Cooper if you would like to just message and we can work it out. Kind regards.
Hi, is it still possible to join in the letter writing?
I just love to write and really don’t like computers for letter writing. It has taken away the art of conversational writing and condensed it to emoji’s and abbreviations I don’t understand!
I live in Australia was born in the UK. I am a grandma and would love a penpal.
Thank you
If possible – I would love to join in this project – if not too late to do so!
I live in Oxfordshire – and was brought up in rural Herefordshire.
