One of the things I love most about taking on jewellery commissions is the variety and, sometimes, the quirkiness of the silvery requests I receive. Once I was asked to make a tiny 3 dimensional squirrel as the customer was so fond of them. Recently I made a little silver daffodil for someone whose grandmother had adored narcissi and had cherished them in her garden. I have made almost everything you could imagine, from a silver wren to buoy someone up whilst they received their chemotherapy, to a little silver primrose for a 25th anniversary present (the recipient adored Spring flowers) to a hopeful pair of cufflinks with the emblem of the AA etched into them. Most commissions have a story – the piece of jewellery I make is for a loved one. The design reflects their passions, their achievements, or is simply something that will cheer, fortify or spark a memory. Each one of my commissions is an honour to undertake.
Definatly one of my favourite things you've made Emma, I love the silver spitfire! The original is amazing too, mind boggling how his grandad made it and so poignant. We are so lucky they fort for us during the war, I always feel so grateful and very proud of what they achieved. Your silver spitfire is perfect to remember and honor his grandad, so lovely 🙂 safxxx
Wow, what a wonderful story, and how beautifully you've cast and finished it. A lovely piece, and so evocative of the spirit of those amazing pilots. CJ xx
Beautifully done – and what a wonderful story!
Oh that is such a lovely story, well done you x
A very special commission, you did a great job on it. I just saw a movie about that war, I am glad the US helped in the effort. ((hugs)), Teresa 🙂
The tiny plane made from a penny is so special – no wonder you were concerned about keeping it safe and returning it home!
Your silver replica is beautiful. We've just read that there will be 20 real Spitfires flying at Duxford on a day in September – maybe we'll see them as they fly over.
That is so beautiful Emma! How amazing is the original and the fact that is made from an old penny! Both of them little works of art! Just yesterday I attended an airshow where we had the privilege of seeing a display by a spitfire from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, it was so wonderful to watch that iconic plane and think of the brave men who flew in them!
The plane looks lovely Emma! I am happy you joined Instagram too. You post so many beautiful photo's!
Have a good week!

What a brilliant commission. The original is so full of history, and such a memory item in itself, so to be asked and trusted enough to copy it and replicate it is brilliant! And the finished piece is so simple, but so evocative. I love spitfires, just always have.
What an amazing story. Your jewellery is so beautiful.
Bead It and Weep
Oh how beautiful a piece and also a story. Love it.
A beautiful piece of jewellery and a great story. I love the other designs on this blog, but there is something extra special about the spitfire considering the danger that faced the pilots in the Battle of Britain and the penny spitfire it was based on. I bet your commission will be loved and cherished for a lifetime.
I do love a spitfire it reminds me of the war.
I love your little spitfire. My dad had to make a little model of an aeroplane when he had finished as an apprentice. He worked for an aviation company during the war.
Did you keep the casting that you made? I'd love one!
